My son has been at Sunshine Day Care for two years. I have seen him learn and grown in so many ways since being in Allison’s care. She has treated him like her own, offered love and support, taught him manners and how to respect others. Allison provides a warm, loving environment for children to learn and grow. She lets them lead and really run with their ideas. At Allison’s, my son has learned everything you would expect for his age level…numbers, colors, letters, how to write his name, but also has developed a love of music, arts, outdoors and both mechanical and creative thinking. Allison is very adept at connecting with the kids in her care and encouraging them to develop their own thoughts and ideas. It is lovely to see.
When we learned that my son needed a gluten free diet, Allison was quick to accommodate, even giving me helpful suggestions of foods he was enjoying there so we could enjoy them at home as well. She offers very healthy, natural meals, which I have really appreciated.
Allison is a very open communicator, and addresses any issues as they come up. Pick up and drop off are always a pleasant experience at Sunshine Daycare. Allison really cares and it shows. This is not a 9-5 job for Allison, but a way of life. She is always learning more, attending child care events and achieving more certification even though she already has years of experience. She really goes above and beyond for her day care kids.
I highly recommend Allison Crawford for your daycare needs. My son has loved his time with her. He has made lasting memories and friendships and we will cherish his time at Sunshine Daycare.
Since my husband visited University of Iowa for research from Japan, we spent about ten months in Iowa City, and our two children attended the Sunshine Day Care from June 2013 until March 2014.
Sunshine day care is a dream place for our family. We were very fortunate to meet Allison.
In the beginning, our children didn’t even know the meaning of “Yes” or “No”, but now they can understand what Allison says and communicate in English. It is really surprising that our 4-year-old daughter can now say “Hi” to the other person and start several sentences of conversation with the people she meets at the store or park. We feel that is not because the children can learn English quickly but because of Allison`s very sophisticated teaching programs. During the day care, Allison read them many books that helped my children learn English. She also communicated with them using signs and some pictures so that they could understand what she was saying. As a result my children were able to absorb the English quickly.
I was also very limited to English. Allison really did great efforts to have a good communication with me, too. There were some misunderstandings with our conversations. So Allison double checked by an e-mail whenever the contents were important or complicated. Especially in the beginning, she kindly took many times to make a plan with us how my children could adapt to and enjoy the new environment so completely different from Japan. She gave us timely and really good advices, which made the day care the favorite place for our children. She is such a talented person that can overcome the language barrier in her day care.
Our children love Allison and enjoyed the time in the day care with her and the other friends. Every day Allison provided them activities related with math, science and art. What was surprising was that she changed the toys in the room frequently so that the children would be fascinated at them every day. In the large back yard, they were able to experience many recreations, and feel the turn of the seasons. She showed us in the Face book how they play and I could see that the children in the day care are enjoining playing and learning.
During the day care, there are so many things that I cannot list up all, such as English skill, scientific knowledge, the skill for living and so on. However, what was the most impressive for them was the deep love from Allison. Although the time was short, we will never forget this precious memory.
We believe that the children who can share the time with Allison will all become happy. I strongly recommend Sunshine Day Care for all the children, regardless of the nationality.
